Hiking is a great way to get to know someone, and when it happens to be something a couple enjoys doing together, it makes for a great way to propose. Trevor and Marlee would hike up Pincushion Mountain often, but the first time they did, Marlee discovered an old mailbox attached to a flagpole. In it she discovered a book with random letters written by strangers. Some were love letters, some were confessions, and some were heart-felt apologies. Marlee was so moved by this idea, that she became excited by each visit to the peak.
When Trevor knew Marlee was the one, he knew how he would propose, and so he hatched a plan. On a seemingly random day, he and Marlee planned their hike up Pincushion Mountain. Though he had a hard time concealing his emotions, he was pretty sure Marlee didn’t suspect anything, (let’s just give him that, shall we.) As per usual, once they reached the top, Marlee headed for the mailbox to see if there were any new letters from strangers. There was. She began to read a love letter which she immediately deduced to be a proposal. Before she read the entire letter, she turned to share it with Trevor, who was down on one knee.
We can only imagine the emotions that both of them must have felt. It was a private event that managed to stay private and oddly, unrecorded. I’m sure they preferred it that way, but since it already happened, and it lives in their memories, they wanted to recreate it here. And I thank them for it. It is a beautiful story.
