I’ve been trying to come up with a new word for boudoir as it pertains to photography. Because I do most of my boudoir sessions outdoors, it doesn’t make sense to call it bedroom photography. I tried a few English words, and then translated them into various languages that I hoped would reveal something profound and poetic. In the end I decided that it was going to make me look pretentious, so I’m just calling it what it is.
This kind of portraiture works so well outdoors because – well – it’s natural. Seeing a lion in the wild is so much more thrilling than seeing it in a cage. I think we all connect with nature on a major level. Water seems to be a particularly powerful draw. Combine a natural setting with a woman in her natural state, and the result is nothing short of art on a profound level.
